Description
My wife and I were celebrating out anniversary on Catalina Island in the town of Avalon, California. We had first come to Catalina Island on our honeymoon. This trip was very special because we were staying in the Inn on Mt. Ada, the iconic home built in the 1920’s by William Wrigley Jr. (of the chewing gum fortune) and now run as a high-end bed and breakfast with six bedrooms complete with an amazing history.
One of the benefits of staying at the Inn is the use of a golf cart all during our stay. As we explored the island we took a road that curved above the Inn and saw this scene encompassing the town of Avalon, Avalon Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Catalina Island is known as a playground of the rich and famous where they can dock their yachts and smaller luxury vessels in the bay and come to shore to drink and play.
You can see the European looking town of Avalon on the left with the pedestrian path circling around the large circular building at the edge of the bay. The circular building was once a casino and now is a museum. No traditional vehicles are allowed on the island and that maintains the character as a tourist destination. The colorful boats in the deep blue waters of the bay meld into the vast Pacific Ocean. A view more to the right might show the California mainland-weather permitting. I have shown this photo to several people that thought it was a view of an Italian village.
