Description
Hummingbird Escape is based on an image taken in my front yard. I installed a hummingbird feeder on a tree very close to our front door. The photographic shots required me to pre-focus my lens on the lip of the feeder and then to wait for a hummingbird to approach for a sip of liquid sugar. When in flight you cannot see the wings as shown here. They are beating 38-70 beats per second and they make a humming sound while in the air (thus the name). The camera shutter freezes the movement of the wings.
This artistic rendition is my interpretation of the brilliant saturated colors of the hummingbird and the feeder with foliage in the background. The green and blue colors of the hummingbird are a figment of my imagination. Too often we fail to recognize the beauty of nature surrounding us. My yard and the parks and attractions near to my home are the source of many of my photographs and art.
