Description
Right outside of Cloudcroft, New Mexico is this old abandoned railroad trestle used to transport timber for the mines in the area in the early 1900s. The rail line was abandoned in 1948 as the automobile took over as the primary mode of transportation. Remarkably it is still standing today where travelers can see it on the road between Alamogordo and Cloudcroft, New Mexico.
The trestle was reconstructed in 2008 to preserve the site as a tourist attraction. Only the visible trestle was preserved, not the rail bed on either side of the trestle. A pull-off and parking area was constructed that provided a safe location that allowed this image to be captured. I had captured a previous image in 2006, but this one is more pristine of the trestle itself and was taken in October, 2012 with some of the fall colors peeking through the frame.
